Star ratings are shared publicly on Medicare.gov’s Care Compare, which reports survey metrics such as quality of care, volume of services, and caregiver feedback including the willingness to recommend a hospice. The CAHPS score comes from the research-backed and standardized survey called the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, developed the CAHPS program to improve scientific understanding of patient experience and ultimately help advance the delivery of safe, patient-centered care. The CAHPS survey is given to the family members and caregivers of all our patients. Not only is it used by our team to understand how we can improve our care, but it’s also used by Medicare to measure and compare health care providers.
